ACRL National Library Marketing and Outreach Discussion Group (LMODG)- Greater NYC
Library Marketing and DEI Initiatives
Summer 2024 Virtual Meeting
Fri Aug 30, 2024 via Zoom (3:00pm-4:30pm eastern time)
Incorporating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) into your library marketing and outreach activities involves creating a welcoming space with inclusive programming, exhibits, and collections. Addressing DEI in your strategic plan helps foster a sense of belonging, and promotes the diversity of your library users.
For our Summer 2024 meeting, two presenters will present how they have incorporated DEI into their marketing and/or outreach activities. We also hope to have a fruitful discussion about how we can incorporate DEI into our marketing plan, our promotions, our events and programming.

Stepping Out of The Library, to Get Others to Step In
This presentation will provide an overview of how being actively involved on campus and collaborating with students helps create a more welcoming space for library users. The library is currently actively involved with the Office of Student Activities and also became a part of other departments on campus to create a strong presence throughout the campus. Most importantly, the library has a Student Employee program with students who take pride in their position and they have unofficially become library ‘influencers’.

An LGBTQ Diversity Audit of Graphic Novels
As the acquisitions librarian, I will be presenting a diversity audit to determine if there are gaps in the representation of LGBTQ content in our existing graphic novel print book collection. Seventeen percent of our student population identify as LGTBQ according to the campus climate survey conducted last year.
