Lightning Rounds Talks (10-15 mins):

Birren Button Campaign
Alexandra O’Keefe, Yale University
The Robert B. Haas Family Arts Library at Yale University is completing a six-month plan wherein one major goal is to increase followers across three social media platforms. One initiative was the “Birren Button Campaign,” a giveaway designed to engage patrons (primarily students) in the physical library space to lead them to our virtual spaces. The use of marketing both on and off social media, the opportunity to highlight collections, and the outcomes of the campaign will be discussed.

Establishing a Consistent Social Media Presence: A Team Effort  [View PPT]
Laurel Scheinfeld and Stacey Horath , Stony Brook University, SUNY

In November 2017, the Library created a social media subgroup was created to formalize and organize our social media presence.  We chose campaigns to run each weekday on the library’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.  Workflows were created for the systematic promotion of library events and these workflows have been adjusted and improved upon over time as needed and will likely always be a work in progress.  In this presentation, we will share some of the processes and tools that we have found useful.

Promoting the Library Online During National Library Week
Gary Marks, Jr., Williams Patterson University

During National Library Week 2018, our academic library launched its first ever multi-dimensional PR campaign. Adapting the resources provided by ALA to fit the academic audience, we used a collaborative campaign using web, social media, and in-house marketing tools. Our efforts resulted in great success and disappointment, as we reflected and analyzed the impact of our campaign efforts.

Promoting Kanopy Updates Using LibGuides [view PPT]
Sheena Philogene, Brooklyn College, CUNY

This lightning talk will discuss how we use LibGuides to providing patrons with updates about our Kanopy streaming video collection. Often, faculty at Brooklyn College request access to films on Kanopy for use by students with their classes, so new titles are constantly being added (and removed) from the our Kanopy collection. To inform our students about the available titles, we created a Kanopy LibGuide that highlights our available titles, direct links to videos, and a countdown for each title, so users know how long we will have access to each film.
